about us
Madi has interest in themes of sense of place, the natural environment, and storytelling. Through a combination of digital and analog mediums her practice is deeply rooted in exploring connection and identity through placemaking and traditional craft practices.
Juliana focuses on using traditional and digital media to explore the role of art in social activism and community building. This process is facilitated through an exploration of personal experience, research on contemporary and historical social movements, and perhaps most importantly, dialogue with fellow community members. Their practice is particularly focused on mutual aid, community organizing, and abolitionist praxis.
Together, they create publications that explore home, play, queerness, and social connection. Beginning as a collaborative practice of crayon drawings, Mossy Press is founded through creative partnership and the regular practice of radical joy. Drawing on shared experiences of art, gender and sexuality, neurodivergence, and community, the studio seeks to speak to collective experiences in and outside of the Appalachian Region. Both having been raised in Western North Carolina, Madi and Juliana have a unique appreciation for regional folkways and forms of expression.
